I quit my job :-)
A couple of months ago I travelled to the United Arab Emirates to work at a government hospital in Abu Dhabi.
When I interviewed for this job, I interviewed for the position as Charge Nurse at a 20-bed, Cardiac Telemetry Unit. As it turns out the unit has grown from 20 to 36 beds! It is no longer exclusive CTU, but mixed CTU and MSDU. Still, there is only 1 Charge Nurse in each shift.
Furthermore I was told by the agency that hired me, that there were many other western trained nurses working in the unit - as it turns out, i'm basically the only one! Apparantly the last administration managed to scare most of the western trained staff away (im not sure how). The hospital has a new administration now and are interested in securing western trained staff again. The situation right now though, is that 95% of the nurses working in the unit are from the asian sub-continent. Not a bad word about them, they are all very sweet - but also very different and I don't find that I have anything in common with them. Not on a professional or personal level. Furthermore I was basically advised by my manager, not to socialise with the RN's - otherwise they wouldn't respect me. If that i leadership, I guess i'm not a leader then - Hasta la Vista Sheikh Khalifa Medical Center.
