R&R in the Cook Islands
Got up on Saturday and went to Friday. This was our groundhog day as we went across the international date line. We left 12.15 on 7th and arrived at 5.30 on 6th. very weird. 2 saturdays tho -awesome! Now we were 'behind' home or the first time since we left.
Rarotonga is a really beautiful island, just a bit smaller than Guernsey. We stayed at Rarotonga Backpackers in a cute little hut on he hillside. The atmosphere here was great and the local people were so lovely. Easily the nicest we have met on our whole trip. On the Saturday we went to the cultural market in town where we bought lots of local produce to cook over the week, then chilled by the pool before making a huge BBQ with the rest of the 'Hillside' gang, inc another Guernsey girl Donna!! u just cant get away from them! That evening we all headed down to the beach and built a huge bonfire and watched the stars.
The next day was Easter sunday so we got up and went to the local church. The best way to get around the island was hitchhiking so we met plenty of local people. U never have to wait more than 10 minutes to get a lift!! That evening Jen and I cooked a whole roast chicken and were very impressed with ourselves!! Our mums would be proud.
After a super lazy day of relaxing by the pool we decided to do some excercise and hired some bikes to go on a 32km cycle ride around the island. Felt so good to do actually do something and we popped into all the cute little shops around the island and had a really nice lunch in town. Our last day was spent on the beach which was gorgeous. We were now as brown as we had even been (almost verging on a Millsy/Le Tissier tan). No swanseas in site girlies!! hehe! Altho the islands were so beautiful we decided to bring our flight forward as there is only so much lying around on tropical beaches you can do before u start to get itchy feet!! so we decided to have some extra time in California instead. Plus, my bed in the hostel was the worst I have EVER slept in and the mosquitos were starting to get to us a bit!!
Was really great to finally have a bit of a detox and relax for a week so that we could be readt to hit America hard. Cannot actually believe where the time has gone and that this was the last stop before our last country on our trip!!!
Hope everyone is well at home! Won't be long until i'm back (scary). Lots of love xx
