We started the day with a 25mile drive to Desert View, where there is a watch tower which was completed in 1932 and designed by the Architect Mary Colter, who was one of very few female Architects working at the time. Colter actually designed and built many of the famous structures on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, including Hermit's Rest. After taking the obligatory 5000 photo's, we headed back along Desert View Drive to Grand View Point. After parking up and looking around at the view from 7399ft we spotted a few poeple taking photo's of the floor; unbelieveably, there among the rocks was a small snake (probably trying to get away from all the tourists taking it's picture), so I took a picture - actually quite a lot of pictures! After parking the car at the visitor centre, we hopped on the excellent travel free buses that operate all along the rim. We travelled all the way to Hermit's Rest and then took a nice half-hour stroll back to Pina Point. Once again, we took the travel bus, this time stopping off at Yavapai Point and the Geology Museum, which was ace for a science geek like me. I've got to say that I'm so impresssed with how well the American National Parks are organised and run; everything is clean, the staff are friendly and really knowlegable, everything runs on time - it just works how it is supposed to, which is very refreshing. We made our way back to the hotel after another full day, ready for an early start in the morning - next stop Lake Powell.
