Round the world trip!
23/4/11
A comfortable sleep but devastated to wake up and see how poor the weather was. Eggs on toast hit the spot for breakfast and then I went for a lonely walk up the beach in my plastic mac, sat on a chair, lookiing out to sea. Still a gorgeous view despite the weather. I spent some time thinking, listening to the rain beating down and watching the terns dive into the water for fish. I also walked alongside a fabulous lagoon just metres from the sea, separated by the white sand.
Me and Jack then checked out the town, popping into Food City, eating some egg and veg rotis and indulging in the sweet Fanta grape and some other raspberry soft drink. The family that served me the goods owned the small, independent shop and were telling us about their ordeal with the 2004 tsunami. The woman was pregnant with the child she was holding (at the time) and she ran to safety whilst her other daughter had to hold on to her grandmother on a rafter (overhanging part of the building providing shelter). I bought the kids some sweets to do my good deed for the day and then walked back to our hut along the beach.
There were many stray dogs around, acting very territorial on the beach including one coming up to me and having a nip on my shorts! I was thinking maybe I should have had that rabies jab afterall! Then others followed and I had to make them know who was boss turning on them and charging! In the town, we witnessed a group of dogs fighting including one male dog mounting another one, whilst the one being bummed was growling and fighting with another! Entertaining stuff! There was one female nearby so I guess the gay dog may have been a bit confused!
Tea comprised of tuna steak and the usual before I set off down the beach alone in the dark in search of a restaurant or bar showing Spurs. Instead of taking the one-kilmetre trudge, I spotted some cricket on and requested the change. However, what I found didn't make me happy as we were one-down!
The guy who served me was a Sri Lankan legend, really nice but with the craziest laugh. It was like listening to a schoolgirl cackle! Weirdly, he was all touchy-feely as well when he was laughing which made me feel a tad uncomfortable! He asked me if I smoked weed (to which I replied no) and I occassionally chatted to him about cricket and football, including the wages football stars get. He couldn't believe it! He was straight off to tell the chef and other work pals! I had a soda water (which I don't even like) with a fresh lime as I thought a lime soda might be like a lemon and lime. Wrong! He gave me poppadoms for free as he said they go down well with it! Bless him! Then I gambled on buffalo curd and honey as my friend had advised me it was delicious. Admittedly, the curd (like thick cream) tasted crap on its own, but add that honey and mix it in, and vwalor, you've got yourself a tasty dessert.
In his words: "Buffalo curd. Great to eat after you've been smoking!" Cue the girly giggle....
Spurs upset me as I knew at one down they could pull it back but after looking so comfortable and in control, the equaliser from West Brom to make it 2-2 pretty much deminished any hopes of a champions league spot. I watched a bit of IPL cricket after that, Delhi Daredevils smashed an entertaining 231 in 20 overs against Adam Gilchrist's Kings XI Punjab. I walked home and was in bed for 10.30, and Jack was passed out with his ipod on and the door wide open.
