Nice breakfast before disagreements about paying the guide Roshan as it seemed to be a wise move to pay the 'balance' at the end when we were satisfied and experienced what was promised. Always good as we've learnt if you've got something to negotiate with just in case something goes wrong.
We got driven to a train station to board our scenice ride through the mountains and valleys to Nanu-Oya. It was a great ride seeing lots of forest, tea plantations and communities going about their day-to-day jobs but got a bit boring after a while. At Nanu-Oya, I stupidly bet Jack to eat a big chilli for 10 pounds, and he did it. It wasn't worth a tenner to lose, but it was funny with his mouth steaming and an instant ice-lolly still not doing the trick.
The ice-lolly apparently tasted like turkish delight so I was straight into one for 20p along with a cornetto for 40p!
Driven to Nuwara Eliya where we checked into "The Grosvenor" (no nothing like St Johns' magical pub haha) and we explored the local town. It was an overcast day in the hills so we just popped into Bale's Bazaar to do some bartering. Jack, Tracy and Wilf all scored nice, warm outdoor coats whilst I tried my best to lower the price for a g-star shirt and a nice Ralph Laurent hoodie. They knew I liked them so I wouldn't let them win and didn't give in!
Dinner included a variety of bits that were delicious. Fish rotis, chicken rolls (devilled chicken they call it I think just means chopped), cheese cutlets and small sausage baps. Cost under two quid with a pot of tea!
Saw a nice golf course (and wished I had the dollar and equipment to play), some gardens, world war II plaques, statues and the racecourse but to be quite frank, it was a pretty dull town apart from the markets and live music going on.
Sweet and sour chicken for tea washed down by some Sri Lankan whiskeys teaching Tracy and Wilf how to play s***head in front of the lovely open fire (as it was fairly cold up in the hills).
Took advantage of a rare hot shower before bed!
