Paid off a 60-quid bill thanks to Jack (who owed me after he lost a wager lasting three months) and caught minibusd-taxis from C Bay to Mqanduli to Mthatha to Chintsa. I fell asleep on literally every journey. As Grandad would say, I'd been burning the candle at both ends.
The drives were as scenic as ever and as excit, ing, not knowing whether you're going to plough down a cow, dog, goat, donkey or local. It's better than the tourist bus though as you get to meet and talk to the local blacks (learning aout their lives, beliefs, culture, language) and it's way cheaper! Plus I reckon it shows you can use your initiative by finding different ways and places instead of just catching expensive door-to-door buses.
At the end of a long day's travel, we got dropped on a road needing to walk 12 kilometres into the night but luckily we were saved by a copuple of Brazilians who were at the Coffee Shack. Sorted.
Jack and I had hardly eaten all day so we had to trek down a hill, over a bridge, across a lagoon and beach, up a path, into the darkness of a small town (asked a local black guy who we scared because of tapping him on the back late at night), and eventually to a restaurant for pizza and fish and chips. The hake was divine!
Back at the lodge I had a few drinks with the Kiwis and Swiss we hung out with at C Bay, and all the seven lads in the dorm gave poor old Fabiola some abuse. Sleeping with your teddy and drinking coke before bed. Mental.
