Mental day in which the Americans staying in an A-frame were broken into.
In the space of two hours when they were out, someone had cut through the mosquito netting and taken all their money, cameras, passport and bag. So, Ian and PJ did the honourable thing and gave them some drinks and food, rushed into the town, broadcast the robbery on the radio and offered a reward for finding passports but to no avail. But what was really crazy was the Americans. The guy worked for the peace core, and when a Mozam peace core guy came to pick them up and take them away, he insisted that Ian and PJ wipe a £250 bill and pay a $1000 to the couple for their losses and threatened them saying they knew people in the courts! Unbelievable! Anyway, they left and got away with not paying their bill but Ian and PJ quite rightly didn't pay them a grand!
The police came and checked it out and had a go at PJ as she said the only person with access to the chalets was the cleaner and that he was an honest guy. The policeman said, "How dare you decide that."
I'm writing this in the future, but after all of this and us speculating how someone could have got up the hill, broken into the room and got away without the dogs or guards seeing, we just didn't know. I even decided that maybe the Portuguese that left early doors might have conducted the perfect crime! But days later, Ian left a mobile in a room after a family had left the accommodation and as Miguel the cleaner was supposed to do, he didn't report and bring back what was left in the room. So as all the staff were leaving at about four or five, Ian asked the guy to empty his pockets and out came the phone. Asked where he got it, he said: "I bought it yesterday." So off to the station they went to prosecute and sort out poor Miguel. PJ was distraught as the nicest, smiley guy was a thief and probably responsible for the Yanks losing their stuff. Apparently he had been robbed of stuff himself a month or two before so maybe he was just trying to make ends meet but still, from the people who treated him so well, this was uncalled for. PJ was worried for his well-being because here, thieves don't necessarily get put behind bars, they get murdered.
Some guy tried to steal a motorbike in the town and all the locals jumped on him and beat him to death. Maybe people wouldn't do it at home if it was similar!
After this horrible day with the Americans stuff going missing, Ian and PJ cracked open a few bottles of champagne to drink the pain away . I got more addicted to Amarula and defeated Jack at chess. Now the score was 10-9 all of a sudden, knocking him off his high horse after his cockyness!
