Made it safe to the English Convention in Guayaquil. After a harrowing 10 and half bus trip which should have only been 8 hours. I think we had a dodgy bus. There was no security checks as we got on and it made a lot of stops to pickup hawkers for their wears probably taking a cut of their sales. Anyway we were told not to use any taxis but only the taxis owned by brothers. But a got a text from a taxi driver that they said they knew a brother on this list. I was not going to take any chances in getting kidnapped. So I rang the brother whoorganised it to get him to verify the taxi's drivers name. He arranged for the original driver to pick me and the brother who I was traveling with up and to be reading a Watchtower and verify his identity, We had to wait a bit. But is was all good when the Brother Acosta came with the Watchtower we felt safe and made it to Hotel alright.
The Hotel wasd weird as it had no signage and only a intercom outside. but Brother Acosta knew where it was and got us inside.
We paid him and arranged for him to pick as up the next day. We explored the Hotel. Weird here have to pay up front, may be it was because it is a smaller hotel. Looked like an old villa it has about 30 rooms, swimming pool and Jacuzzi. We are right need there multi purpose sports area. It doess have wifi which is good.
Cost me $25 a night.
The next day Friday 27th July I was in search of a razor as I had forgotten mine. Run into a croup called Samaritan's Feet. They are a Christian group that go into slum areas and hand out runners to children in need.
I t was started by an African guy who received some sneakers to plat soccer and he rose up the soccer ranks and became wealthy and wanted other disadvantages children to have the same opportunity. So got to witness to them and leave the July mags.
We hasd already organised the taxi but found out that another couple Jim and Cecilia also was staying at the hotel and had a car . We had already organised Omar for the morning so we honored that but it was good because Jim and Celicia did not know how to get the the Assembly Hall which was at Bethel from the hotel so they followed us in the cab.
They Assembly hall is an opewn air venue getting used to those now and situated 20 mins from where we are staying. Met a lot of need greaters the first day. Even those who got the last of the 2 year missionary visas as well. Including the sister mentioned is our July 2012 study edition of WT. The weather has been warm and sticky but not to unbearable as we are under shade and in the afternoon a cool breezes comes over, Keeping up the fluids.
The water is drinkable from the taps as it is Bethel filtered water.
The program featured a lot of long term serving brothers many Americans, but also the occasional Aussie pops up in there as well. Don Harding was on the program if any knows him.
Enjoying the program and meeting new friends.
