As expected we were greeted on the pier by numerous hotel touts, desperate for us to choose them. Although a little annoying they are genuine and helpfull. We quickly found somewhere to stay - Tropical Garden Bungalows! A 10 min walk away, we were very relieved when told someone was coming to get our bags. A short chap arrived with a wheelbarrow type contraption and took our bags; despite having to push our luggage along many a bumpy track and uphill, we struggled to keep up!
Tropical it was, bungalow it was not! To get to our room we had to climb a steep, nattow spiral staircase - thankfully the man took my bag up the stairs for me, otherwise I may never have made it! Our room was small but acceptable, we had a hot shower (although the bathroom was no bigger than a shoebox and you couldn't even swing an ant in it) but Tom was impressed as you could shower whilst sitting on the toilet and brushing your teeth over the sink! A time saver if nothing else!!
A quick shower to refresh (v. hot on PP)and then down to the village for some lunch and a cold bevvy! We walked along the beach and paddled in the sea which was literally like stepping into a bath!!! We sat down for a while but the overcast sky soon turned to rain; by the time we got back to our room we were a little damp to say the least - where's your 'Kag in a Bag' when you need it! We dried off, had a little nap, then it was time for dinner. Kag's on this time we headed for food. What to eat? Oh decisions decisions! A dish I (sam) had seen earlier won me over so 'coconut curried duck' it was! Mum - Tom said he wanted chocolate labrador on a stick but sadly that wasn't on the menu, instead he had 'Beef in a ginger sauce' with rice. Not forgetting the Satay starter! I really enjoyed my dish but it was a bit spicy for my liking! Think my tum had issues with it!! After a wander round we headed back to our hut and the mosquito net made its 1st appearance - thanks steve! With some careful planning, our bed was protected and snug - minus the sheets which looked mighty suspicious and with 2 t-shirts used as pillow cases as we lost the ones we brought with us after the 1st night...damn it! Tom donated the pillows, I added the dribble!
