hey guys, good to see you are keeping up with me here, or if not deliberatly i see your bored and clcking the links, either way its nice and if you want to leave me a few comments on here thats cool, and i might relpy...
The Nullabor
the worlds lonliest road, nah its not that bad now i think about it , its a long drive but there is plenty to see, and this isnt sarcasm. One night there was a plauge of mice in the fields down near Ceduna, i first thoought they were leaves but then we realised they were tiny mice, i wasnt going to swerve into them , or try to avoid them , i just drove straight and killed 10's maybe 100's of the things there were that many.
but my need for killing innocent animals was not yet satisfied and so next was a rabbit, and a few birds and thousands of flies. the bigger game was yet to come untill a kangaroo jumped infront of me, screetching to a halt i killed Nat with shock i think , but the ''Roo'' just jumped into the woods , never to be seen again. that gets the bllod pumptin and the heart rate up , i tell you that for nothing.
all along th nullabor were signs displaying pics of cows, Roos and emus. only one emu did we spot and the f***er was too fast to get a decent picture of it . but i did manage to get one of a dingo who came upo to the car, in broad day light and gave me evils, so i took a pic, nat got out and tried to stroke it, bad idea i thought , but it just ran away. my last encounter of dingo's was on fraser island some 7 months back over Christmas, where they would come in our tents, open our eskis and steal out beers and food. this one tho, ran the f*** away . Thats right Mr Dingo, jog on, off you go.... we showed him....hmmm
we ran out of petrol twice on the nullabor, not due to our fault but the driving into a head wind the entire way caused consumption of feul to be so much higher than we antisipated, but we had our jerry can ready and after a few refils we were back in the game . petrol is so much more expensive on the plain, maybe due to its scarsity, or the delivery costs, or some say that they run on deisil engins for llight out there and its more expensive to run , hence the rise in petrol costs. but we all know its because nop car can go from ceduna to Norseman , (the other end) with out refueling, and so they can pretty much charge what they like.
i did enjoy being far from any one miles and miles between cars and even further from petrol stations- hundered sometimes thousands of miles from radio and mobile reception. felt nice to just be alone. living there tho...another story....hell to the no!
Crossing into the Western Australia Border is in theory an easy thing, declare what you have , then drive on. We however found the stalkest b**** who stripped our car out anly to discover that all we had illegal were 3, thats right guys, 3 cherry tomatos we hadnt declared. $250 fine.....EACH! c*** breath b****!
petrol in W.A. was at one point $179.9 a litre, so thats $60 to fill a tank, and that was my turn, oh the pain.we stopped of to change drivers at one point neatr the cliff edges and decided to have a little walk and some Kodak action, 40meter sheer cliff drops and then the open water, what a sight.
there isnt much to do in a small car apart from talk, i feel i now know Nats life and her mine, not sure if thats a good thing tho.
After driving through the rain storms , there was a rainbow in the distance, could never get to it, missed out on my pot of gold. a pot of gold to me at this point was a shower, a bed and a roast dinner. soon young thomas, soon....
it was getting dark now on our second night , and with the increasing amounts of dead roo's on the road we decided to call it a night , early , some 120km from our final destination , Norseman , the end of the Nullabor. we pitched up and sat and watched episode after episode of ''How i met your mother' eating tim tams and snuggled up. Nat drifter off to sleep and i amused my self with Age of empires, before retiring for a well earnt sleep.
Day three satrted of like many, me awake, Nat fast asleep snoring , so opened the doors and a nice cold breeze woke her. i explained that if we got to Norseman by 10am there could be a shot of us getting a Hungry jacks breakfast, Thats burger king to anyone else, just a different name . This woke her up and i finished the nullabor in time to get to noresman , only to find they were not that big of a town , but a bacon and egg roll was order f the day , was nice to have a hot breakfast and a rest. we went to the tourist infomation center where we recieved a certificat on crossing the nullobor, i was expecting more of a welcome, banners, balloons , a parade, but instead had to settle for an old woman telling me i was crazy for wearing shorts and a tee shirt in the cold. DARN HER!!
now the rest of the journey was pretty much the same , more frequent were the towns tho, and cheaper the petrol was. at 5pm Tuesday we got 1 hour outsaide perth where we had a pizza and a sit down. The car at this point was very unhappy, just been chipped by a stone in the window, and the Cam belt was too hot from the drive, making the noise unbearable when changing gear, and then standard to drive. Cock. Met up with shaun a few hours later where we had some food, a beer, a shower and a nice sleep in a double bed, warm and cosy from the previous nights and days travels, not to worry body, they cant hurt me now, time for bed...
