Started the day early at 6:00 to have an early breakfast and get out onto the Delta main river. We went straight to the river and onto a boat to experience the floating market. It was absolutely incredible, with boats of all sizes selling goods. We bought fresh mangoes and rice products to eat at the time. We tried a new fruit as well, called 'pamella' which was a mixture between an orange and a grape fruit. Tom thinks it may have been a variation of grape fruit, but whatever it was it had a really sweet taste unlike any grape fruit I had ever tasted. From there we took a tributary to a rice noodle 'production plant'. I would have called it a factory, but I think that would have been a stretch. All of the equipment was ancient and lots of the procedures were done by hand. Firstly they mix rice flour with water, spread it very thinly on a hot plate and cook it. It cooks to a very thin, plastic looking disk. These are left to dry for a day on vast wooden racks out in the sun. Once dried they are then sent through a machine which slices it into thin noodle strips. There were some tiny puppies living at this plantation and got some good photos with them as well. From there we went to a small village on the bank of the river and took some bicycles with our guide. We went to some old log bridge called 'monkey bridge'. It was rather precarious walking across it and I was very aware that I had my phone outside of a water proof case (have photos of TC on it). We had some more fresh fruit from the locals and they also BBQ'd some rather exotic animals. Such as snake, frog and rat. We had eaten so much at the floating market that we didn't fancy eating any of it. We took the.boat back after the ride and hopped back on the bus for the 4 hour journey back to Ho Chi Min, we managed to sleep most of the way which was a saving grace. We returned to stay the night in the same hostel we first slept in and booked a bus to Mui Ne in the morning. Went to the sky bar for some beers and food, then an early night
