MISSION BEACH
29th October to 1st November 2013
We decided to go to Mission Beach as a stop gap towards Airlie Beach. It was written as a popular tourist destination with unique and picturesque sections along the North Queensland Coastline. "Mission Beach boasts a relaxed village life style with shops and bars, restaurants and cases" . Sounded good so we decided to book three nights into the Mission Beach Resort.
We got the Greyhound Bus from Cairns and headed onto the Captian Cook Highway Mission Beach and was dropped off at what was know as a shopping village. There was very few shops open and people about and enquire about a taxi to where we was staying. We as told it was only a 10 minute walk so we decided to walk. We noticed the Back Packers on the same bus as us were all picked up in Minivans from their chosen hostel! So off we went and no way was it a 10 minute walk it took well over 20 minutes in unbearable heat and twice we passed the vans that has dropped off the Back Packers. So we finally arrived at our Mission Beach Resort which was tucked away up a quite cul de sac. We checked into our large pleasant room and then decided to walk back to Coles Supermarket which we spotted on the way and get some bits in. So off we went again and during this walk we walked passed an overgrown waste land and felt as though some one was watching us. So we looked around, nothing, then we notice some heads pop up over the undergrowth and there we saw what must have been about 20 wallabies watching us. We really wasn't sure what to do whether to run or not, anyway we sussed them out and realised they were harmless.
Got a bit of shopping and returned back to hotel.
We didn't really do much for 3 days as there wasn't that much do, the beach was great but not for sunbathing or even sitting on as there was no shade and the heat was so extreme.
Dunk Island is a popular place to visit whilst staying in Mission Beach but due damage caused by cyclone Yasi the island was presently not in operation.
So after 3 days we got the bus to Airlie Beach.
