Yo yo yo!
After we left the leafy lands of the Cameron Highlands we headed over to the capital of Malaysia. It didn't take long and before we knew it we were dragging ourselves and our backpacks through the chinese market towards our hotel. Eventhough we looked heavily laden and very annoyed (i get annoyed when tired!) they were still trying to sell us watches and get us to try on their ridculous sunglasses! we had decided to treat ourselves to a proper hotel room for the first time in 2 months! Woo hoo! Hot showers and a TV!! Yay!
On the first day we woke at the crack of dawn in order to get down to the famous Petronas twin towers and get a ticket up to the viewing bridge. We had been told that the tickets went very fast and had usually sold out by 10am. We managed to get a ticket but it was for 2pm so we spent the morning in an amazing shopping centre. At first i was unable to contain my excitment...there was even a Topshop...oh girls it was like a miracle! I haven't seen proper shops for months and you know what im like about shoppin! I went in and picked up practically everything in sight, i tried it all on, loved it all and then put it all back where i found it as i realised i didnt have the income to support my shopping hobby anymore!
At 2pm we headed to the twin towers. Before taking the lift up to the viewing platform they gave us some 3D glasses and made us watch a short film about the Petronas Towers which was rubbish! it was basically one big ad for Petronas. Anyway after all that waiting we finally got up to the bridge and we got to see quite a nice view of the city but we were only allowed up tehre for 10 mins. Over 5 hours of waiting for 10 MINUTES!
That evening we bumped into Kevin and Marcel who we met on the Perhentian Islands and as kevin was shattered after staying up to watch South Africa beat England at rugby the night before we made a date to meet the night after for some drinks.
The next day was spent mainly just wandering around the city, looking at markets and booking our onward ticket to Singapore for the next day. We met up with Kevin and Marcel at the Reggae bar (the whole of south east asia is obsessed with Bob Marley!) in the evening and we also went for a really nice chinese dinner. As we were all getting up early to leave the city in the morning we all headed to bed at a reasonable hour and I only consumed about 2 units of alcohol...i think i learnt my lesson in the Cameron Highlands!
Overall KL is a great city and both of us really enjoyed our stay here. It was a shock how expensive most things were. We've been used to the cheap life but i think thats all a distant memory as we head off to Singapore! xxx
