31st May - Day 1:
So after 2 very long flights and an expensive 40 minute stopover in Dubai we finally arrived in Bangkok at about 6pm local time. When you walk out the airport, the first thing that hits you is the heat, it is absolutely boiling and really, really humid! We got a taxi to our hotel (The Bangkok Palace) which took about half an hour and is a pretty surreal drive after hardly any sleep! After getting some food and having a bit of a look round the hotel we decided to get an early night and try and feel alive for the next day.Tom
1st June - Day 2:
Woke up at 3.30am and neither of us could get back to sleep so we just chilled until we could go for breakfast at 6am.I guess this is what jetlag is, I've never had it before and it's absolutely w***!Later on in the morning we both decided to get a Thai massage.Little did we know this involves a Thai woman pretty much walking over you and clicking all your bones but it was surprisingly good. For lunch, we decided to go on a little wonder and its then that you start to realise how nuts Bangkok is and what a busy place it is.We found a little restaurant not far from the hotel and got our first proper Thai meal for a total of £2 between us, pretty good?!After lunch we headed back to the airport and got our flight to Koh Samui which only took 45 minutes and was absolutely stunning when you come in to land.We got a taxi to Chaweng and went on a hunt for a hotel.Just note that hunting for a hotel with a girlfriend who has a ridiculously over packed and heavy rucksack was never going to be easy and we ended up in the first hotel we saw which was alright but decided to find somewhere better the next morning without our rucksacks on!Early evening we went down to the beach which is all of a minute away and just sat down at a bar and I think it then hit us that we made it!The sun was out, there was a rainbow, we were on the beach drinking beer, we had monkeys climbing over us?!And most of all, it hit us that there's 8 months left to do whatever we want with no pressures. For me, this is what feeling content is!Tom
2nd June - Day 3:
Woke up in the middle of the night again, still trying to get used to the time difference. We went to McDonald's for breakfast and had our mcmuffins and hashbrowns, very Thai of us! Then went looking for somewhere else to stay for a couple of nights, found out Tom has expensive taste. Couldn't afford any of them!We decided to stay where we are for the next few days as is okay and really cheap!Just been at the beach/beach bar all day and I got burnt and now I'm upset.Sea is absolutely beautiful and so warm. Just about to have a nap, then go to the restaurant we went to last night to sample some fresh Lobster, (depending on price!)then have a few drinks back at the busy beach bar. Had a really lovely day and can't wait for the rest of our time here!
Just got back from food, Lobster was 25quid and more than 4 night's accommodation so decided against it! I was sat there saying I'd love to be here when there was a tropical storm and sure enough, 10 minutes later it started tipping it down, thunder, lightning and all sorts! Had a drink out of a coconut and Tom out of a pineapple which was fun! Sat and had a drink at the beach bar then headed back up to the room, hopefully we can now start getting a proper nights sleep! 5th June - Day 6:
Still have sunburn, from now on will be putting on suntan lotion every 3 minutes! Chilled for the last few days, wrote a few post cardsto home and been to the beach bar a lot! Last night had a meal at our local which came to 250 baht (£5!) for both of us! Then went to the beach bar, Tom got a bucket of jager and red bull and igot a southern comfort and lemonade, or 4. Decided not to drink the red bull again as heard it is laced with all kinds of wierd stuff and Tom was up all night thinking he was having a heart attack! Went for a wonder down the streets full of nightlife. Ended up in a bar with a live Thai band who sang songs by guns and roses and kings of leon. Then went back to the beach bar and met Rodger (cant remember his name but Rodger sounds good) who told us he came here because of a recent split from his girlfriend of 4 years and that he used to have a drug addiction, nice guy though! Today we packed my mountain of a bag and I had to sadly say goodbye to some clothes because I couldn't shut my rucksack. Got a taxi up to Bho Phut which is in the north of the island which is beautiful (pics coming soon). We're sat in an Aussie bar having lunch, then in an hour going to play 9 holes of golf, when I say we, I mean Tom!Heading to Koh Phangan tomorrow which we both can't wait for! Absolutely loving Thailand so far and apparently Vietnam Cambodia and Laos are half the price of here! Lottie x
