Hello everyone
So, where to begin...we have not had time to update our website for a while because so much has happened. After Praia de Forte we headed inland to a place called Lencois. Here we went into caves and swam under waterfalls. But it was when we were in Lencois that we realised we had both had our cards copied (probably in Praia de Forte) and some lovely person was spending all our hard earned cash. We got a bus back to Salvador to sort everything out. But we were determined to make sure it didn´t ruin our experience here in Brazil, so after spending two days sorting out our financial problems, we were back on the road.
Next we went south to a place called Barra Grande, which is a true tropical paradise. It has miles and miles of untouched coastline, with palm trees and mango trees lining the beach. After a few days here we moved south again for christmas to a place called Itacaré. This is like the Newquay of the northeast, with huge waves for surfing and lots of young people. Christmas was quiet, as it is everywhere here (as New Years is the big thing), but it was still good fun.
Boxing day we were on the move again, and now we´re in Arraial d´Ajuda. This is one of the best places to come for the New Year celebrations. Its a constant party, mainly on the beach, and nothing starts until about 2am. There are hundreds of typical brazilian men walking around, with their huge muscles, tiny speedos and cans of beer. Tonight (the 31st) is going to be a massive celebration, everyone wears white which represents peace and goes on the beach and jumps the first seven waves at the stroke of midnight. It has something to do with the god of the sea. Then we all stay out until breakfast.
We´re on the move again on the 2nd, but we have no idea where to yet, somewhere towards the south. Our money that was taken is now back in our accounts and we´re now just waiting for our new cards. So that little nightmare is almost over.
Happy New Year to you all!
Tom and Beth
