Hi All. Hope your ok? It's a while since we've spoken. Where do we begin?! Well that bleeding rubbish that them fijians conned us into buying had us right in the Airport at Auckland on our return!! We kinda of packed them into our hand luggage never thinking that they where made of wood, so we filled the visa forms in on the plane and put nothing to declare, ups kind of missed the one about bringing wooden items in, us thinking they meant like trees and stuff!! So as we strolled through the bag x-ray they stopped the queue and pulled us off to one side! Well my heart sank i honestly thought it was rubber glove time as they searched our bags!! To find first that bloody Kava bowl!!! So anyway the girl to be fair was very pleasant, and was pulling up the people behind us as they had done the same, so after talking to us we where on our way. So that out of the way we made our way down the exit where we going to meet Ken and Rena who where picking us up! (i met Ken back in May in Pately bridge at Young Farmers county rally and have been in contact with him for few months proir to our trip) So we jumped in to there car and headed down to there house in Morrinsville, Hamilton, about a hours drive away. So we landed at there house, after a tour of the town in the car, it was really nice a big bungalow just outside of the town, in a really nice area. So we found our rooms a tour of the house and i went of with Ken to look round his tractor dealership, (hes sales manager of power farming NZ McCormick and Merlo handlers) and Anna went of dog walking with Rena. Then we all met up for a beer and tea later on it was so good to get a home cooked meal again lasagne!!! So next day we hit the road with Ken to go and see some of the countryside, which isn't in short supply he he, and to do a few sales pitches along the way think we travelled all day down south then came back up along the west coast. We can't believe that as you drive through the towns it's like the tractor dealers have taken over, they have half the street, the forecourts are full of shiny polished tractors like our car dealers. Don't really know where you go if you want to buy a car! The Vets also are massive places, everything is so geared around farming, it's scary! So first off we stopped at a dairy farm, then it was off to a calf rearers where there were 800 calves on 10 acres! we had dinner here. We then made our way up the coast back to Morrinsville. The roads are so quiet its unreal and in real good repair. So wednesday morning it was straight down to power farm to look at a car they had in mind for us. A black Nissan Primera 2 litre with red go faster stripe a pure power machine!!! And if not it would make a brilliant taxi back home!! So we went for test drive with Tom at the wheel as its automatic!! After a bit of thought we decided to buy it as there is no other way to get around really as suprisingly the public transport is nearly none existant!! So we managed to get them to service, tax , Mot it and put some new tyres on it all for the princely some off $2900 about a grand at home and then insured it for another 100 pounds for us both!! After 2 days of trying to draw money out of cash machines, messing about we finnaly managed to get all the money together and go pay for it. That was it we had our Taxi!!! So it was off to the petrol station to fill her up, a tank full of fuel came to about 20 pounds! It was then off to hamilton for our maiden voyage! Meanwhile, while we had been trying to get the car sorted Ken had found a job down in the South Island so after a phone call to the chap, Grant, we decided to give it a go, hes a machinary dealer but also has a deer farm too!! So saturday morning soon came round and it was time to leave Ken and Rena's to head south, we we are so gratefull them for putting us up for the week and helping with jobs and a car, because to be fair without them think we would have still been in the airport, thanks a million!!!!!!
So we started the big journey south to Wellington to get the ferry! We set off at 8am from Hamilton and started the 550km drive to Wellington, The Capital. Tom in his wisdom did the drive solid with only a 10minute stop with his new toy, The car went really well and still a quarter of a tank left! We arrived at about 3 o'clock and thats where we are now just sat in the hostel, downtown backpacker. We then get the ferry in the morning to Picton and then are travelling down to Ashbourne. We Hope to get there early evening.
By the way we also now have an nz mobile number 0064 212 923 860
