I had an early Sunday morning bus at 9am from Cairns to Mission Beach; I left the hostel at about 8.20am to give myself enough time to walk to the bus terminal which was a twenty minute walk away. I was still quite tired after watching the football the night before and waking up yet missing the Inter Milan win because of the broken TV.So I tried to have a little sleep as we made the short two hour trip. It went pretty quickly and before I knew it we had arrived in Mission Beach. It was my first time on the greyhound bus and it was fine as there was hardly anyone on the bus so we had a few seats to ourselves as it was not peak season and most people travel up the coast not down the coast as I was doing. It was fully air conditioned and I had plenty of leg room as I have short legs haha, plus there was a TV with a film on for the duration of the trip. My hostels minibus greeted me at the makeshift bus terminal which was tiny, so I got in the minibus and expected the hostel to be a fair drive away but it was literally about 20 meters away so don't even know why we needed to get in a minibus. I checked in at the hostel, and then went to explore the very small town; it was a Sunday so the main big supermarket was shut which was annoying as I needed to get a few bits. There was not much to see on my brief walk as I done a loop around the community near to where the hostel was, I walked past the skydive centre as I saw a few people prepare for what would have been an awesome experience. After arriving back at the hostel it was lunchtime so I made myself some noodles which I brought with me from my Cairns hostel, and then I asked the staff how I get to the beach in Mission beach as the hostel was located in a small town just down the road. After being given directions and told the tide times, I decided to walk to Mission Beach itself, the beach was actually very average, there weren't very many people on it and the town was so small, it literally consisted of a few shops and that was that, it really was a small community. I called in at the local shop to buy some stuff, then I decided to walk back to the hostel along the beach (before I was stranded by the tide coming in) after seeing what Mission Beach had to offer which was very little.
It was about 3.30pm by the time I arrived back at the hostel, and at 4.30pm there was a hostel organised activity which took us to one of the local bars where we got a free beer and nibbles. I went back to my dorm and got chatting to three Canadian girls who were in my dorm, until 4.30 came around and we all decided to go to the bar which was probably the only bar in Mission Beach as it was that small. We each got a schooner sized beer which is the equivalent of about half a pint for free, then sat at the table as we were served with a few bites to eat such as spring rolls, samosas, chips etc, the food was all really good and free, we stayed and chatted amongst ourselves in the bar until around 9pm when we were given a free lift in the minibus back to the hostel. I made myself some pasta and sauce before going on my computer and then going to bed. I had a strange girl above me however who seemed to think she had lost her phone even though it was charging next to her bed and seemed as though she was high on something, she was having really weird conversations with us and then went and turned the light off in the room when everyone was still awake and doing various things that needed the light such as reading, she was just a strange person.
I was up and showered to check out by 10 the next morning, then I had breakfast and spoke to the three Canadians about the weird girl above me, they all thought she was proper strange as well, before watching TV and then getting the minibus to the bus terminal again even though it was such a short walk it saved having to carry my back pack lol, the Greyhound was leaving at 11am so we got there a few minutes before and I started my days travelling towards Magnetic Island after just one night in Mission Beach but that was more than enough time as the place was very small with very little to do there.
