Hot Water beach (Martarangi)
Wow You drive for an hour or so from Martarangi, you pull into a car park in front of a beach , just a normal looking beach with one exception everyone has a big spade with them and I mean the type you would use in your garden. You carry on down the beach and see lots of big holes in the sand and people sat in them. Hot water pools! You just dig a little hole to see if you can find some hot water if you strike lucky, you build a fort with the sand you dig out of the hole to stop the sea getting in when the tide turns. When you have found a hot spot it is best advised to fill it with cold water before jumping in because it is scolding hot I mean I could cook my pasta hot!
Anyway much much excitement later the tide had come in and one by one the spa pools disappeared but not ours we out lasted everyone by at least 20 min!!
We also visited a place called Hahei with a cove called Cathedral Cove.
The only toilets are at the top of the cliff so you have to go before you set off for the cove as it’s a good half an hour walk. The toilets are in a really nice wood shed, you go in and it’s a hole with a toilet seat! No flush or anything not even running water just some hand gel stuff. Seemed a little odd to me, no explanation of what happens to it all, but by all accounts it gets broken down by chemicals in the pit. I presume that it does get full at some point and they suck it all out and use it for something otherwise the whole idea seems a bit pointless!
Anyway that’s enough about the toilets.
The beach its self is well worth the walk, which in its self is worth the trip anyway! The pictures I took don’t really do it any justice. The thing I did notice was that all the stacks are the same colour from top to bottom not like the one at home!!
Sorry it has taken so long to up date. I have been a very busy boy!!
