Peter and I departed West End for Culebra, PR about 0900. It was another lovely, leisurely sail West along St. Thomas. The wind was at our back so we only had the genoa out. Later in the afternoon, the wind switched around and we were able to raise the mainsail.
We dropped anchor in Sardinas Bay about 3pm, launched the dingy and broke out a couple of beers. I took a swim over to the neighboring sailboat that arrived right after we did.
We waited until after sunset and then took the dingy over to the island and through a narrow cut, through some mangroves and up to a waterside bar called Mamacita's. The coconut palm trees grow right out of the dining area and the atmosphere is very whimsical and friendly.
Peter and I started out by treating ourself to one of Mamacita's tropical drink specials. I had the Bushwacker which has Baileys, Kailua, Vodka, Rum, and Ammaretto, topped with whipped cream and cinnamon.
Then I ordered the Mahi Mahi and fried plantain which is a kind of banana that is only good cooked. I stayed with a Cuban family in my South Florida days that were always cooking the stuff. Not bad actually. The meal also came with a small bowl of three-bean salad. Peter and I ordered a glass of red wine to have with our meal.
I was enjoying the ambiance of the place so much I decided to order the blackberry cobbler for desert and Peter ordered another Piña Colada. But the sun and the sea had worn us both down and we were both feeling vert tired. Another great day was coming to an end.
