Fiftieth Stop Vientiane
We had heard absolute horror stories about the bus to Vientiane from Hanoi; 36 hours with no toilet breaks was the worst. However, it wasn't that bad but still the worst journey we have had to date. We got picked up at our hostel at 6pm on a mopped (with our backpacks on) and got delivered at a random street in Hanoi where we waited half an hour for a mini bus to give us a lift to the bus station. We met Lee and Tracy who we spent a lot of time with in the next few days. When we got to the bus station we got herded on a bus and then waited stationary for half an hour. We finally got moving but stopped every 15-20 minuets to pick up various bags after about 2 hours on the bus the isles were packed. About midnight they decided that having our backpacks in the bus was a bad idea and tied them to the roof and a hoard of people got on the bus filling not only the back seat where our luggage had been but also the isle. Two of the workers then tied hammocks to the ceiling and climbed in. At 3am we stopped yet again and met Jonahs, from Norway, to find that he and another 6 backpackers from another bus had to get on ours. So, along with the people and bags already in the isle another 6 backpackers were added. We got to the Vietnam/Laos boarder at 6am to find that the offices didn't open until 7am. We didn't get back on the bus until 9am. We stopped again for breakfast for an hour at 10 but from then on it was straight through to Vientiane at 6pm. 24 hours and instead of no breaks too many. As it was such an ordeal though the backpackers on the bus formed a kind of bound and about 14 of us all went out for dinner that night.
The following day we went to Vang Viang?
