Mdina the old capital of Malta, which was chosen as a result of it being the highest point on the island and therefore the farthest from the sea and invaders and pirates. This walled, medieval town is also known as the "Silent City" as it has less than 300 inhabitants (but is in contiguous with Rabat) and the streets are barely narrow enough for cars to pass.
