Coquille River Lighthouse was built in 1897. Extreme tides forced the logging community to build out tide breaks into the water. This created a inlet into the port. So the light not only warned of the rocks near to it, but showed the way for ships to come to reach port. Decommissioned in 1930's for an electric light. Crazy people never saved the amazing Fresnel Lens Some believe they just threw it in the water somewhere. Port Bandon was responsible for shipping out the lumber to rebuild San Francisco after the 1905 fire.
