Hello all - I hope you have had a great xmas and will have a great new year.
After leaving Fiji about 10 days ago we landed in Auckland (north of the north island - New Zealand). It was around 3.30am we got out the airport so we didnt get a great idea of the city at first glances. We arrived after a 20 minute bus ride. The hostel was 10 stories high and had over 500 rooms. Checking in was a bit of a hassle at that hour but we managed to get to our room about 15 minutes after arriving - and as you may expect we crashed out till the morning.
I am keeping this entry to a minimun today as I have not got much to say about Auckland. We spend 4 nights/5 days here and to be honest there is not much to do or see! Its a nice enough city but just a bit slow, with limited activities. As we had booked up 5 nights we were given a free sky tower pass (thats what you can see in the photo). One night we got up the tower and to be fair it was a fairly spectacular view out over the habour. Little fact for you - its the tallest man made structure in the southern hemisphere (boring i know but im struggling).
We did manage to hit the town in our short stay - we went in a few local bars (one being an irish bar) before hitting the Globe Bar. It was a club/bar next door to our hostel where we didnt have far to stumble home after.
We are now back in Auckland - after spending Christmas in Paihia (its part of the Bay of Islands, which is further north and i'll do a fresh entry for that). We are now becoming slightly bored of Auckland, but we had booked our new years eve accomodation prior to leaving, so we are here until January 1st. I feel as if im slating the city which i dont mean it to come across like that.
Anyway i ll put a new entry up for Paihia and again after new year
