Day 2
We finally rise from an epic 12 hour sleep feeling refreshed and ready to go. Breakfast on the terrace is pleasant, unfortunately evidence of Spanish languor and gross disregard for punctuality becomes apparent. Reception opens 45mins later than indicated , and only after a wee nudge.
Nevertheless, we're on the move around 10.30 only to realise we have no idea where tour buses depart from. Fast forward 45mins and two full circles of the town centre complete and we're finally in the not insignificant queue for the bus. Fast forward another 8 years (40mins) and we're on board.
Good but long tour (~3 hours) of what turns out to be an extremely large city. Key highlights had to be belgrano (surprisingly large settlement in the outskirts) and the Frenchman with the extendable camera handle...didn't enjoy the giggles that ensued everytime it came out.
Post tour and craving our next dose of tinto, we make a bee-line for San telmo - the region of the city famed for tango. Despite the pigeons, the resident vagrants and yet more stodgy yellow food, the tango is fantastic...unfortunately got a sneer from lady tango for our pittance of a donation.
Lesson #4: Don't piss off street tango dancers
Back to hostel and onto the bus - Mendoza-bound. Quite literally a dream come true. Can. Not. Wait.
