July 19, 15 youth and 3 adults from Zion and Trinity Lutheran Church are traveling this summer to the Northen Cheyenne Reservation in Montana to serve the community there through Youthworks. On the way there we are spending a day in the Black Hills where we hope to tour Jewel Cave National Monument, see the Crazy Horse Memorial, play at Sylvan Lake and the Needles in Custer State Park and finish the day at Mt Rushmore. July 20 as we travel to the mission sight we plan to stop at Devil's Tower National Monument.
July 21-26. Much of the day will be spend in one of three activities described as:
1. Kid's Club: This energetic ministry for kids in the community is built to demonstrate the love of Jesus to children while giving teenagers an opportunity to serve in meaningful ways. we intentionally engage children in activites such as reading, biblical teaching, recreational games and creative projects.
2. Work Projects: We love serving communities by completing work projects that are at - not above - teenager's capability. Many of these projects include painting houses, but we also serve the community through other simple projects. Our goal is to create meaningful work experiences where youth can make a difference while building relationships with those they serve.
3. Outrageous Sports Camp: Our goal through this sports-centered ministry is to extend the outrageous love of jesus to youth ages 10-14. In addition to facilitating athletic practices and games, we provide programming for community youth that focuses on biblical character enrichment. Only a limited number of older students will serve at OSC during the week.
In the evenings we will rest and have a variety of cultural experiences, visiting a buffalo jump, cultural education evening with a local drum group, visiting the Little Bighorn Battlefield site, and a community cookout.
As we prepare and serve we ask you to pray for us that we may love our neighbors and serve Jesus.
