Have had a wicked time in Thailand.....we spent a few days in Bangkok not doing much and trying to get used to the heat, then headed north to little town called Ayutthuya to check out some famous ruins. It was lovely being out of the city and we spent the days cycling around even though the whole town was suffering serious flooding and the river had risen by about 10 feet! Ruins were still pretty impressive though...
After a couple of days we headed west to Kanchanaburi to visit the Death Railway and the Bridge over the River Kwai. Managed to score on the accomodation front after stalking a friendly Dutch couple to an African style resort with its own amazing pool for just 4 quid a night!! Quite why it was African styleee in the middle of Thailand beats us but who cares when the pool is that pretty!!!!
The Death Railway museum was fairly harrowing and a bit strange for us after we had visited the Hiroshima museum in Japan....now we have seen both sides of the same story. And to be honest, its all horrific. End of story.
After visiting some cool seven tiered waterfalls where the fish have become carniverous and actually eat the dead skin off your body (nice!) we rode the railway back to town and across the infamous bridge. Felt a little famous, everyone was waving and taking photos (of the train, not us, but still) as it crossed the river.
Spent the last day chilling out and practising our motorbike skills...well lack of...nearly came a cropper after losing concentration crossing the dual carriageway....have decided to stick to pedal bikes from now on.
Back on the overnight bus to Chiang Mai where we ended up sleeping in the basement of the bus with no windows.....Tim feel straight to sleep.....I spent most of the journey convinced the wheels were no longer touching the road.
Love to all xxx
