Delayed for a few hours because of the strong winds, we finally touched down in Lima, Peru's capital city. But bit of a disappointment after sunny Cusco, the whole city was covered with a damp sea mist which lurks around for the whole winter season. Tears. Checked into our hostel in Miraflores suburb and briefly ventured out to feed before retreating to the warmth of our cable TV'd room! In the morning we hopped in a taxi to explore the main plaza in el centro and wandered round the Cathedral and the San Fransisco Convent. No scary nuns but instead a Peruvian version of the Last Supper with Jesus chowing down on some tasty guinea! Strolled round the catacombs but it was all in Spanish so didn't fully understand why there were rows and rows of open tombs filled with neatly lined up bones and skulls. Touch creepy in any language probably.
Back to Miraflores after a bargainous set lunch of three courses for two dollar consisting of potato in some kind of unknown yellow cream, a magical soup filled with all manner of goodies and leathery meat on rice. Hmmmmm.
Whistlestop tour to the misty cliffs, a taster of local delicacy spicy goat and we were ready to head on to sunnier climes.
