Howdy dudies,
So arrived in Santos - A big seaside city which means Good Life apparently and boasts the Worlds Longest Beachfront Garden, its in the Guiness Book and everything. Oh yes, we are really seeing everything Brazil (and Norris McWhirter) has to offer!
Stopped here mainly because as flashpackers the longest bus journey we are prepared to do is no longer than 6 hours, so this seemed like a good place to break up the journey.....but actually we chilled here for a few days in a nice little place by the sea.
Visited the famous Coffee Exchange House; rode the 15 mins tourist tram for 25p admiring the famous tiled facade and ruined old police station; caught the extremely steep funicular railway up Mount Serrat which used to be an old casino and now has wierd Hall of Mirrors and also cycled along the famous World Longest beachfront garden on very uncomfortable bikes with teeny tiny saddles. Rewarded our exercise with a hotdog.
Made a great discovery of Beer Towers - actual glass towers full of beer with flashing lights and mini taps! Needless to say we staggered home after one too many towers!
And randomly we came within hours of buying a car! We spotted a beautiful powder blue VW Beetle in absolute mint condition for the bargain price of £1000 and after listening to the engine and tapping the tyres, decided it had a mint engine too and would be wicked to drive round the rest of South America! It was even called 'BUK'! Sadly though, we realised that whilst BUK was beautiful, he would possibly not appreciate being driven through the winter conditions of hilly Patagonia......so we bid him farewell and headed on our journey on a lame but surprisingly luxurious coach....
Onwards to Curitiba and the Cloud Train! x
