Tim, Chris and Edd´s And James's Long Ol' Adventur
Hi,
Three days ago I arrived here in Ho Chi Minh which is a very cool place. Lotsa action and bustle with frequent near misses by the suicidal moto drivers who rule the road.
There's fantastic alleyways to get lost in and then stop for food outside a locals house. Not sure many westerners do this as I get some very odd looks. Maybe it's only a local thing but the amount they rip me off I don't think they mind too much. And yesterday, I was continually hassled by many locals trying to ask questions and to teach me Vietnemese which I stupidly made my intention. They loved my mispronuntiation but the language here is really wacky. And afterwards, 2 0f the kids decided to stalk me for half an hour around the town so I had to hide in a bar, drink beer and play pool until they disappeared. What I'm forced to do!
I'm staying down one of these alleyways (I regularly can't find it) which looks like any other house. You gotta step between the sprawled out family, navigate the steep stairs, over the dog (dinner here I'm afraid) and then bundle into the room. Pretty fun.
So far have been for endless walks, seen a palace, and the war remnants museum. The latter very very depressing showing pictures of attrocities committed by the Americans such as Nepalm wounds on children etc etc and interesting facts on how much spent etc (352 billion lowest est to 990billion highest est).
So after Cambodia and all the awful stuff over there, I'm now a very depressed person. And tomorrow I'm off to the tunnels which I've heard are ridiculously tiny and show the horrific conditions they lived in.
But don't worry, the anti-depressents work a tread and combined with a solid drowning of beer, I'm tip top.
Soon I'll be heading North until I reach Hanoi which is apparently completely mad and crossing the road is 10 times worse. Having been told the people here are particularly moneygrabbing and nasty, I'm nicely surprised that everyone (here at least) is kind and helpfull. I hope it remains the same everywhere.
Chris
