06-01-07 The Ferry Back from the island was even more packed than the one on the way, and on a few occasions I heard people talking about what would happen if it sank, me included, but we made it back safe and dry. From Copacabana we were heading over to La Paz, which incidentally is the highest capital city in the world! Bit of "interesting" info for you! So we went back to the bus station, and found out what bus was going there, and when it was leaving. Another thing that is cheap, it cost 17 boliviano for the bus, which is a four hour route, so a pound for a 4 hour route is also pretty cheap. The bus ride was actually quite pleasant, although I did keep my fingers crossed that my bag was still on the roof by the time we were to get to La Paz. Half way through the ride we had to get a ferry across a short channel. The bus went on a separate one, which was basically a floating barge with wooden planks for the bus to sit on, very precautious. Saying that the boat we were on was pretty dodgy also. I had to sit at the front on a bench, with a ceiling about 3ft high. But it was an experience none the less. From the other side it was only an hour to La Paz, so we were there in no time. La Paz is a massive city, which sits in a valley with houses all over the hillside. It looks quite a lot like a stadium, with the houses on the hill acting as the seating, and the main centre the pitch. Anyway, that’s what I thought anyway. We got to the bus station, and then headed to our hostel. We planned to stay at this hostel called the adventure brew hostel. Basically, the main micro brewery in the city has also got a hostel adjacent to it. And the main pull for the backpacker is that every night you can get free beer from it. Plus it has hot showers, which many of the hostels here don’t have, or at least if they say they do, they are lying. I plan to stay in La Paz for a few days as there seems to be a lot to do, including the world most dangerous road on mountain bike, loads of 5000/6000m mountains, heaps of culture, but who knows, I may only end up staying for 2 or 3 days. anyway, I gotta go to sleep as I have got to be up early tomorrow, plus I was up early today, so its been a long day. Speak to you soon!!!!
