9th August
Today we were only really going to one location so decided to take it easy in the morning, have a bit of a lay in and Stevie wanted to have a look around Brasov for a souvenir . On the way back to Bucharest we decided to head to Pele's Castle which we missed on the way up. The trusted SatNav only got us to Sinaia (the town it is located in), but with the help of some old school, pulling over and acting like a crazy English men asking for directions we found the hidden castle. For something so touristy there were not any tourist attraction signs guiding us to it from the town.
The car park was full so we just took the gamble and parked on the curb a little way down the road. We headed up into the grounds of the castle. It was very charming and didn't disappoint. A really beautiful building, complimented by its gardens and copious amounts of statues. We wandered around like usual tourists snapping away.
This neo -Renaissance style building took an long 39 years to build and the summer residence of the monarch. Apparently the first to have central heading and electricity in Europe. We decide not to have a look around the inside and head back to Bucharest
We managed to get into Bucharest 3 hours early so headed to a hostel where the kind host organized for our car to be picked up early and from the hostel. Luckily on pick up everything was ok, although we were a little worried about all the curb scratches and Stevie's food crumbs in the car.
The hostel was located near the station which we called Poor Pregnant Street as it was full of poor people laying around, the smell consumed the air, and pregnant women who sat on the side of the streets breastfeeding. Another bag drop in our room we headed into town for some dinner and a few beers. Our first stop was Casa Cu Bere the first beer house in Romania, and the locally brewed house beer was beautiful. After a disappointing dinner in a Steak house we headed back to the room which was now filled with Germans and Polish. They headed out as we headed for bed. We are such party animals.
