After an average night sleep we woke up this morning feeling a little bit more refreshed then yesterday! So we handed in some more laundry (our dirty clothes from the climb) and had porridge and toast for breakfast which we never paid for!!! Then got ready for a day of casual sightseeing, (bypassing having a shower as there was a power cut, so there was no hot water and the room was pitch black).
We headed to Mitad del Mundo (middle of the earth) which is a monument on the equator line...well the fake line as 20 years ago the real line was discovered using GPS! Once we were there we did the only thing any decent tourist would do...straddled the line and took untold amounts of pictures..Mark even found a Mitad del Mundo badge for his bag, you can imagine my absolute joy for this discovery!!!!!
And then it was a 10 minutes walk to the real line that was in Inti Nan the solar museum. We had a very interesting tour of the museum which showed us animals of the Amazon, the Wuaorani tribe, how they lived, how they gained status by the size of the wood in their earlobe and how they shrunk enemy heads and wore them as souvenirs, they still practise this ritual today but only on animals so they don't forget their past. We also participated in some equator experiments...for example they had a sink that demonstrated the Coriolis effect, where the water runs anti-clockwise in the southern hemisphere and clockwise in the northern hemisphere however on the equator line in runs straight down!!!!....Crazy! And we had to balance an egg on a nail (as on the equator the gravitational pull is more central so theoretically it's easier), I did it twice and it was a breeze...Mark managed it once and it was painful to watch!!! But we both managed it and we have the certificates to prove it!
The last part of the tour we were shown a house that the museum was built around it is 136 years old and still standing, the tribe that built the house believe that having guinea pigs in the house will protect them from bad energy....they will squeak until the people with bad energy leaves there home!!! We have good energy as there were guinea pigs in the house and they didn't squeak once....yes!
Then it was back on a bus (the wrong one coincidently) but we managed to get back to the hostel, via KFC for Mark. We had a beer collected our laundry and charged the IPods ready for the 34 hour bus ride to Lima tomorrow....which we now have to try and confirm the time and place for ..hmmmm!!!!!
