I woke up with a jolt and realised we had pulled up at a station and everyone was getting ready to get off...we had arrived in Sofia....I actually didn't feel to good. Considering we had spent the last 8 hours curled up on the floor of a train! We began our walk to the hostel hoping we were heading in the right direction, 20 minutes later we walked through a metal door and we pleasantly surprised with the small oasis hostel mostal, it was in he centre of this busy city yet had a suburban feel.. We couldn't check in for another couple of hours which was a shame as we were desperate for a shower, instead we settled for cleaning our teeth and breakfast...mc d's for Mark and the pancake house for me.
We decided to wander around the city and take in the sights including impressive Aleksander Nevski Church which was an impressive sight to behold. Mark had his picture taken with the guards outside the presidency building although I had to warn him against trying to open the doors....as he thought it would be funny if they tried to shoot him!
Still exhausted we sat down and had a nice coffee before heading back to the hostel to finally shower and have a lay down....it was much needed. We finally dragged ourselves off the beds and went for dinner and a beer....service was extremely slow but we had a fun night splashing out on steak and soufflé all washed down with a few alcoholic beverages.
Time for bed and a decent night sleep.
