Today we stumbled out of bed and took our tent down for the final time. Quite a poignant moment really as we have had some amazing times over the last 70 days and this has been "home" for that whole period. Nevertheless we are both looking forward to real beds and getting dressed standing up! Often it is the little things that make the difference ;-)
We had a full drive as the focus was on covering the approx 400 km to Stellenbosch by lunchtime. The scenery was stunning as we drove through mountains and increasingly green areas with farms and vineyards. Unlike many other countries we have travelled through on this journey there are no longer teems of people walking along the roadside to get from point A to point B, no more donkeys or bicycles carrying uncanny amounts of gear for the village and on the drive we did no more mud huts.
Stellenbosch is a lovely little town in the heart of wine country which also has one of the most prestigious Afrikaans universities. Beautiful buildings dating from the early 1700s for the tree lined streets, art work is randomly placed on various street corners and the food is sublime. At least that is our thought after sampling a cafe burger for lunch ;-)
Having spent that afternoon exploring the town we dragged Ben & Miriam out for Thai Food for dinner. As it was raining (definitely still winter time here!) we just popped around the corner. Food was nice and company delightful. Being replete we rounded off the day with a night time stroll around the town, exploring roads we hadn't yet been on and interacting with the art - none of us will be launching a career as finger pianists ;-)
