It was nice to have to wake up early and it was super cosy in bed with a big thick duvet, it was like winter at home when you stick our leg out to test how cold it is and decide whether you want to brave the cold yet or not. We braved getting up and ready to go out for about 9.30am, the fog was really low this morning and the visibility was worse than yesterday, hopefully it will get better! We sensibly hired a moped for the day any ways!
Breakfast was good this morning, Scott had his usual Pho Bo but added three teaspoons of what he thought was the normal chilli sauce he usually had but in fact it was chilli paste so three teaspoons of it was around about 6 chillis! Safe to say he cleared his sinus's this morning! I had museli and bananas - three bananas I think! There were loads of them chopped up!
We went to the silver waterfall after breakfast, the roads were weaving in and out around the side of the mountains but the view was of the houses 5 metres in front of us and that was about it, we couldn't tell whether there were mountains or rice paddies or trees, anything. The visibility was shocking! Some of the fur trees in people's garden looked pretty with water droplets on all the spiders webs; after about 15km we found the waterfall, it was pretty and mystical, you walked up one side, over a bridge and down the other side. Not much to see but was sort of pretty and picturesque. We drove back and went south of Sapa this time around, again we failed to see anything. Lots of buses and mopeds don't like to put their lights on when the fog is out; they must think it's safer to not be seen?! I went about 5-6 metres up the road from where we stopped the bike and run through the fog, you could barely see me on the video until I reached the bike! This place apparently has so much potential but we have no idea what is surrounding us because the fog is so low all of the time. It looks like smoke as it flies between the buildings in the town it's bizarre.
Scott's beard was catching all the water droplets whilst we were on the bike. It was quite funny!
We went down to find the rattan bridge where we bumped into Oli and Chris on a trek! The locals were following us everywhere, young girls carrying the babies on their backs using blankets wrapped around them to hold the babies in place. It's nice to walk amongst the local villages but at times I felt as though we were intruding. We ever brutally found it and it was a little like a suspension bridge that wobbled, a few farmers picking at the land to turn it over. They had no shoes on though, they're hardcore here! Haha.
Today was nice even though we couldn't see many things well because of the poor weather. Hopefully it will gradually get better!
This evening we had a massive thunderstorm, I asked Scott what the rumble was at about 11pm he said 'oh that happened last night I think it's just a truck going up the hill'. Ha! Silly man, there was no way that was a bloody truck; and then at about midnight the biggest clap of thunder I have ever heard shock the room and I felt it shake me aswell. Scott darted up out of bed and had his nose pressed up against the window shouting 'Beth this awesome! Wow! Look at that lightning!' Then he ran around the room a little bit flapping his arms and not knowing what to do he suggested that he wanted to go outside and stand in the rain to listen to the thunder and watch the lightning. Umm... No. Anyways we have a balcony - he forgot that little detail that all he had to do was open the door and stand on the balcony! Silly little man! Well he was more like a little kid haha!
I like a thunderstorm but this one along with the rain pounding down was scary, maybe it will clear the air for us to have some sunshine tomorrow!?
