We had a lie in!! Yaaaaaah! This ment we woke up at 7.30am. Fabulous lie in. We hired a bike this morning, figured it was the best thing to do to see the area. For £5.50 for 24 hours and a full tank of petrol you can't really go wrong.
We had some breakfast at the kaffee hub, it was nice. Scott had a thai dish but it's not the same as vietnam's Pho Bo!
First on today's list of attractions...
The clock tower, it was outside the cafe which was easy! It was stunning, painted gold in the middle of a roundabout, the details on it were incredible! How do these people create such things!? Then we went to book our bus to Chiang Mai for tomorrow, best to get it booked and done out of the way. Some American girls went to the bus station to get the bus today for Chiang Mai and there weren't any seats available until 1pm, it takes three hours to get there and they had a flight at 5.30pm so they were pushing it! How silly to not have booked a bus though...
Next was try and find the black house temple, it is apparently gorgeous but it's difficult to find! On the way to finding it we stumbled across some hot springs which were HOT. They were a bit like an outdoor jacuzzi without the bubbles and swimming pool, you could hardly put your hand in the fountain it was that hot. We couldn't really work out whether they were natural or man made though. Next we found a waterfall, so we walked up the stream to find it but there seemed to be way too many boulders everywhere stopped the flow or breaking the waterfall up into little ones so we stopped and dangled our feet in the water once we found a rock with no ants on it. They were everywhere!! Rocks, stones, mud, trees, leaves, sand! We killed so many just by walking on the path. Er, made our skin crawl! There was a little bit of insect cruelty going on... To entertain ourselves we were flicking the ants into the water and watching them swim, some did manage to swim to the side and pull a dead spider in with the aswell. Clever little things, if they get any bigger we are going to be taken over by ants not all this other rubbish going on in the world. ANTS. That's who will rule if they get bigger!
I thought I was only helping the world out by killing a few or letting them swim down stream!
Couldn't find the black temple, we tried loads of different routes following the signs but still no luck! We gave in and went down the otherwise of town to the white temple. Ooo - ahhh!
Yes it was something out of a Disney film! It was spectacular!! Everything was white, the details, the carvings, everything was emaculate! The gardeners were everywhere watering the grass cutting every blade of grass to a precise length I expect! The big Japanese carp in the pong were even white. It looked from a distance that it was shining because or some sort of paint but it was little pieces of mirrored glass shining in the sun - it was Wow!
Although we were a little weirded out by the inside, there was a nice painting of the Buddha and a madam Tussaud's plastic figurine of a monk cross legged on the floor (one that looks like a person but the hands always give it away because the hands are all fat and puffy and they never have wrinkles or creases on them.)
Then as we turned around the room looking at the decor on the walls we spotted superman, flying alongside King Kong on the Empire State Building whilst Kevin the minion was stood on a cloud watching over some sort of Lego Man. What the hell is going on!? There were loads of little things that didn't make sense what so ever in a Buddhist temple!? Asia never ceases to amaze me!
After we walked around gobsmacked at the temple we had a selfie moment - of course! And headed back to the main town because it was lunch time!!
After a bite to eat we went back to the hotel and chilled again, we had seen a few temples and waterfalls. Other than trekking there wasn't much else to do and we are going to trek in Pai so don't want to do it in both places.
We booked Chiang Mai accommodation and stated in to stream the welsh game, what a shocking first half but the second half was awesome, if only we hadn't have let that last try for Italy then we may have won the tournament on points!
We went to the night market for dinner, we had a cook your own beef hot pot. It was pretty good and a lot of it for £2.40!! It's nice how they have it set out here, there are a bunch of food stalls either side of a food court that has loads of metal chairs and tables in. Live music (rubbish, but it's okay to have in the back ground) they'd be pretty screwed if it rained, none of them would have any business then! Unless there is a huge marquee that magically appears for rainy season!
