Surprise surprise the boat was late and when it was our turn to get on it was the same big skipper guy shouting at us to move faster as though it was our fault the boat wasn't on time.
This boat was just over two hours long so best part of the day we were hanging around which was annoying. Santorini was a completely different looking island, long and in a moon shape with high volcanic cliff edges and the towns perched on the edges of them - wow! What a site!
The bus was waiting for us… yaaaaah! Finally an island with good on time transportation haha. Only trouble once we got to the Elia Hun apartment good ole Athena was late and kept giving the lame excuse of I'll be ten minutes just - yes we have all used it and are very familiar with it. Liar. As if we hadn't waited around all day anyways for transportation now we were stuck outside in the boiling hot for almost an hour waiting for her to arrive. The excuse "traffic" she must have thought we came in on the last banana boat… she was on a moped not a bloody bus!
Finally in the apartment and it was lovey and modern, we had a sunset view which was incredible and not to mention the hot tub! Which we all got in after Ross had a work call and we went to fetch pizza take out and beers for the room.
Oia from what me mum and dad saw looked lovely another island with winding small alleys painted white but lots of colourful buildings this time also, terracotta/blues/yellows aswell. Very busy of course too!
The hot tub fiasco haha, well let's just say it was only made for two people and if you fit four grown adults in it… well it's going to flood the balcony. Haha! Bloody hilarious and all the people parked up and sat on the car park wall above us thought either the same or were jealous at the fact we had booze and a hot tub to enjoy the sunset.
We had quad bikes delivered to the apartment the next morning and we're keeping them for 2 days, so obviously we made the most of them! We went right to the bottom of the island the first day to the lighthouse, the views along the way and at the lighthouse were incredible. The sheer lift drop with the building perched into them all white and crispy clean and stunning blue water was awesome to see. Ross is still dying for a pool bless him! He's had to live with the sea all holiday but I did find a free pool up the road from us so he went in there for a dip, dad slipped on the side of the pool and slid into the water like a seal lol. We also went to Red Beach, so pretty there. From the volcanic rock the beach was red which was awesome and the sea was freezing as per usual but so clear. Mummy didn't get in she just melted in the sun and worried about not having enough water lol!
We stopped at restaurant Panorama for lunch which was delicious and then in the evening we went into Oia and had dinner but my god it was the hottest we had been it was boiling! Lack of wind maybe? We weren't used to not being knocked off our feet with the wind lol.
The next day we got up and out, went around Fira and then down about 600 steps to the port to catch a small boat trip out to the active volcano that also has another one which is dormant currently. It's what shaped the islands and gives it all such a dramatic scenery. we are currently sitting right smack bang on the middle of a tectonic plate. Then we went to the area to swim in the hot springs but they just seemed to be like warm waters with lots of mud and sharp rocks. Awesome to see where the lava spilled out and went cold and set, it's ridged and shiny very different to anything else.
Don't like that they use the poor donkeys here to cart people up and down the hills, I know that's what they were used for many moons ago but shouldn't be used for that now the poor things I wanted to take them and put them in a great big hilly green shaded field where they could run free. We decided on the cable car back up, I think mum was feeling pretty good about it! Not sure she's over coming her fear with them though just yet lol.
We went to the longest volcanic beach on the island afterwards called black beach. Saved the best for last! It was lovely down there. The water so clear and sort of a long piece of stone flat no seaweed and rocks amongst it so you could walk out easily, Ross swimming has come along nicely now his breathing arm pull and kick is much better and breaststroke sequence very good too!
Time to get back chill get ready and go out for some grub, we were going to bar hop but the place we were at was fairly nice and was nice to just go for a drink before hand too. Most places seem to be reserved, weren't as hot tonight but still warm. We wrapped up the evening with a covid test for Ross to fly to Athens and a big fat gelato each! Scrumptious!!
