TJ goes around the world!
Hello, Hello!!
Okay, so i know this thing is already no longer up-to-date, but some day i will do it!
Right now i am in Mexico City - the 3rd largest city in the world! Its actually not as crazy as i thought it might be.. Got here on Sunday 21/05 and am leaving on Saturday 27/05 so i have 5 whole days to squeeze in what i can. This place is f-u-l-l of museums, galleries, ruins, and various other historic attractions.
After a day of flights on Sunday, i made Monday action packed and visited the Templo Mayor, the Teotihuacan Pyramids (and climbed them!) and the Guadalupe Shrine. I did this as part of a tour which i organized through the hostel i{m staying at. On the way we stopped at this workshop place and straight up had 3 different shots of alcohol's which come from the cactus plant! of course one of those was tequila with lime and salt, but i was sure to let someone else eat the worm! The Pyramids were the main part of the day and we spent about 3 1/2 hours there walking around all the pyramids and climbing the stairs to the top of the main two pyramids - The Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. A path down the middle of the line of pyramids is about 2/3km long, and the whole area represents only about 10% of what was once this ancient civilization - just one of many throughout the history of Mexico. Great views from the top!
Today i went to the National Museum of Anthropology - only visited 5 of the 22 rooms which was definately plenty! not that exciting to be honest.. ha.. then we checked out this lake (which was green!????) and a National Palace/Castle with a beautiful view overlooking the city. Tomorrow im checking out the 'downtown' area in the Centro Historical District which is actually the area where i am staying. The hostel i'm at has an awesome view from the rooftop terrace! and it{s right in the center of town, so when i walk out the door i'm instantly surrounded by the markets and street vendors outside selling all kinds of crappy little cheap stuff and plenty of food - including fruit covered in chilli powder! you can even get ice creams and beers here with hot chilli...hmm not so sure about that!
Other things which i intend to do in Mexico City is to go and see the Frida Kahlo artworks and the Diego Riviera murals. I also plan to go to Xochimilco - otherwise known as the 'floating gardens' - the only part of Mexico City where the lake which it all once was, still remains.
Then it is off to Cuba!
okies, well time for me to go!
Hasta la vista!
