Monday 8 September
Remember back in April when we were in Lewis Mountain, VA and had a go at horseriding for the first time? Well on Saturday, we upped the size and most definitely the height and went elephant trekking as part of a full-day Island Safari. Amazingly, for such a large animal, they are very graceful, once you get used to sitting so high up. During our trek our guide passed on words of encouragement to our mount and steered him with his feet, whilst weaving the vegetation into intricate necklaces and rings for us both. The elephant trekking was just the first part of our full day safari which also included an elephant show by two young elephants, one of which gave Gill a Thai massage - a bit corny but all part of the fun. After a monkey show and a Thai boxing demonstration it was time to set off in the landrover for the second part of the day. This included a boat trip for snorkelling at Koh Tan island, a jungle walk to the "Buddha's Magic Garden", mountain views and tropical waterfalls.
A long and very, vey hot day which allowed us to see other parts of the island. We also spent the day with a very interesting young couple who, when we spoke to them during lunch, told us they were Slovakian, living in Milan but had also lived in Paris, Manchester and Macclesfield! A bit like Del Boy and Trotters Independent Traders... Paris, Milan and Peckham.
