First days in Wiener Neustadt
On the 6th February, i arrived at Vienna airport after a long journey flying from Wichita, Kansas. My 'buddy', Alex, an Austrian with Eric from Germany picked me up at the airport and then headed to Wiener Neustadt (the new city of Vienna), where the university is located. The ride took approximately half an hour. It was already night so i couldn't check in to the dorm and was invited to stay at their apartment. Soon after i dropped off my luggage and had some rest, we went to the dorm and i was introduced to some of their friends and other exchange students. I was overwhelmed to be able to meet so many people from different countries. We hanged out and chill there for few hours. The next morning Alex took me to the registration office, check in the dorm and did whatever had to be done. The room was furnished and given the 'survival kit' which consists of all the cooking tools needed so i didn't have to buy anything. The university is just 5 minutes walk away from the dorm which located in the industrial area of Wiener Neustadt. In the evening we went for grocery shopping. The first week was more like an orientation, no classes etc so we spent most of the time meeting people, learning how to get around the city and chilling in the common room most of the nights. On the 10th of February, we had a welcome event where all the exchange students get together and introduced themselves, followed by a contest for memorizing names and ended with paintings of flags. The same night there was a welcome party at the cellar in the dorm. I was surprised as well that they have such a big space for party especially it was at the basement of the dorm. Plenty of alcohol as you can see on the pictures; beers, wines etc, definitely uncommon in the dorms in the states. Loud music were played and people were dancing and chilling. The first week in Austria was already awesome, i'm looking forward to it.
