So I believe I left yesterday, but it is all very confusing. My flight from Chicago to Rome was delayed by almost 2 hours, so that was a bit rough (especially because we had already boarded the plane when they noticed "technical difficulties"). I then watch the Airplane Safety Video a record four times. The first time there was someone in the Lavatory, and it is required that everyone watch the video. So a plane full of passengers awaited the departure of the poor woman in the bathroom. The video began again, yet the power turned off. We were able to finish the 3rd try, only to hear it in Italian a few minutes later. It was wonderful. Other than that everything went well....until Dad and I decided to trek to the hotel. Only about 6 blocks, but with two 50lbs bags, and regular size suitcase, and two backpacks, through 87 degree weather. It was not my favorite. But it gets better. We arrived to our hotel, completely drenched in our own sweat, only to find out that SURPRISE! The hotel overbooked, but they booked us a few blocks away at another hotel. We continued on our journey, and it eventually turned out just fine.
We then headed to the Colosseo! as they call it in Rome. It was incredible. It was huge. It was actually kind of creepy scary too. The Labyrinth looked like a place I would never want to be. We saw some squares off of the podium where the senators would take a bathroom break during events...in public. Very classy Rome, very classy. But anyways...we moved on to the Forum after a few missed entrances (Rome is not very good at marking important things!) Dad mentioned that Kerry did the same thing. Wonderful. We have now suck to her level.
The Forum was AMAZING. And to think, I know nothing about the Romans....CAN'T WAIT FOR GREECE. The buildings were god-like. They were huge. It was LITERALLY hard for me to believe that they were built way back when. The detail on the buildings and arches were incredible. It must have taken forever.
Dad has declared that it is time for bed. I agree. The jetlag was especially bad this time abroad. But I will cover more in my next entry:
Notes to self: creepy motor man, the outback factor, my ability to contract a medical condition within 5 hours of entering a new country.
