Tuesday 23rd Chilled at Nancy's in the daytime and in the evening Nancy and Herb gave us a lift to Becky's in Mount Pleasant where we would be couchsurfing for two nights. I randomly clicked on Becky as a couchsurfing host in Vancouver. It turned out when she clicked on my facebook profile that we already had 7 mutual friends from when she lived in England for a year abroad. Becky was from New Zealand and in Canada for a year abroad during University, she lived in a cool flat off Main Street with her boyfriend Tyler and friend from New Zealand Rosa. She had a mattress and two futons for us to sleep on which was ideal. In the evening we chilled in living room/our bedroom and just talked and drank for a couple of hours.
Wednesday 24th We went back into Downtown and went to the SWAP office to print off CV's, then over to West 4th Street where all the ski shops were. I went into one store and found a good pair of all mountain skis. They were 'Blizzard One's' with bindings included for $600 the sales guy was raving about them and really recommended them to me. I took his advice into consideration but also had to remember that he was trying to make money and would therefore be a tad bias. I took a photo of the skis anyway and we went to the other shops. I decided after Jamie bought a new board and Tim bought new boots that I would go back and buy the skis. As I went to the skis I noticed that the slightly torn and faded sticker for $600 had been replaced with a brand new white sticker for $700. This was crazy in the space of an hour the price had just jumped. I thought it was a sales tactic as he saw my interest in them when I first came in, however when I asked him he said he looked on the system and realized he was undercharging for the skis. I said this wasn't on and he let me have the skis for the original $600, cheeky b******. The walk back from the bus to Becky's was considerably slower for all of us with the added physical weight of skis, a new board and boots and the weight on our minds of all having spent at least £400 that day before having jobs and a place to live in Whistler.
We decided to make the Kiwi's toad in the hole as a token of gratitude for their hospitality. It was a taste sensation with veg and gravy and to finish chocolate brownie with ice cream. After filling our stomachs we introduced the guys to facejacker and Jamie showed them shooting stars which wasn't as funny for a non Brit as there were British comedians and lots of British references on it.
Whistler
Thursday 25th Took a quick bus up to the greyhound bus station where we would embark on our journey up to Whistler along the Sea to Sky Highway. The route was stunning with soaring mountains and green forests decorating the landscape, the occasional waterfall was also seen. Tim and I got off at Whistler Creek and the others continued up to Whistler Village. We took the fuel cell powered bus to our hostel
Friday 26th Walked around the whole of Whistler village with CV's in hand. Went to Four Seaons and spoke to HR. Jamie said that Four Seasons love BUNAC people so I went in to get my name and face remember and the woman suggested
Sat 27th Woke up at 7am, shower shaved and took the bus up to the Four Season Job fair went really well. Walked up to Fairmont Staff Housing and applied for
Sun 28th Longhorns
Monday 29th Went to the job fair at Earls restaurant with no knowledge of positions they were looking for. , Moved into Fairmont staff housing with Tim. We share a bunkbed room and a livingroom/kitchen with a New Zealand guy called Chris and English guy called Jamie. Tim and the other two share a mutual friend from their last season which is a bit crazy. Our pad is sweet (Picture) we have a projector to watch movies off which was left by the last tenant. Our first night we watched frozen planet to get us ready for the cold.
Tuesday 30th Walked to the library and got the four seasons job, received a call whilst I was in there. Warehouse party
Wednesday 31st Woke up 2pm, went to Re-use it Centre with Tim and bought all in one ski suits for $15. Went to the Whistler Brewery and bought a large bottle of Honey Beer for $18 it had just a little more than a 6 pack in it and when you returned the bottle you could fill it up again for $10. Went out with the flat to a Japanese restaurant which was closing down and everything was $3. We sat at the bar and ordered beers, sake, shots, cider and anything else we could. The owner was a very happy Japanese woman who would cheer Happy Halloween to anyone coming into the restaurant. Jamie and the Four Seasons crew came in a few hours after we had been there, then we all went to Buffalo Bills and I mineswept about 6 coronas which didn't go down to well when I returned to my room after
