So what have we done since our last blog entry, when we left you last we were 3 days in to our open water SCUBA diving course, so after acing the exam we are now proud owners of certified SCUBA diving licenses allowing us to reach depths of up to 65ft....and scuddies (scuba buddies) for life, although not be it for two very unflattering pictures on our cards!
Feeling as if we had worked so hard and drank relatively little, we felt the need to wet our beaks and let the our hair down. Having not fully experienced what koh taos night life has to offer this was the perfect oppurtunity. We shall let you fill in the blanks of that night. Needless to say we still weren't ready to leave, and thought we'd stay just one more night and get involved with the organised bar crawl undertaken every monday, wednesday and friday. It consits of two bars a lady boy show, another bar for some live music and then the final bar! The first 2 bars we're very rocky for both of us after terribly misjudging how we were feeling with Aadil not feeling up to it! However after a good lady boy show you can fast foward to both me and Tom dancing on a table singing a long to all words from the live music. We dont know what it is about a lady boy show but they really get you perky! And then of to the final bar called fish bowl which is the last place. Throughout the course of the night we met so many people shared sotries laughs and loves with everyone, but bumping into some girls who lived in Northampton and were oustanded at how much we knew about the town considering we go there all the time was a definite highlight!
But the amazing night does not come without sacrifice, R.I.P Toms flip flops, they unfortunately were kidnapped by some lone wolf resulting in Tom having to pull out all his James Bond skills and majestically apprehend another pair.
The next day not being at all ready to leave the vibrant and friendly atmosphere, gerat diving facilities, lushious greenery and pure white sandy beaches that koh tao has we had to or else we would have undoubtedly stayed forever, so we made way for Bangkok, a quick stop in the leg of our journey to get our Vietnamise visas and use it as means to get to Cambodia.
After a very choppy 3 or so hours on a boat to Chumpon situated on the mainland of Thailand where we were due to catch the 8 hour night bus to Bangkok, the wait seemed unbearable until we got talking to a few friendly people who were all in the same situation of being travellers. Simon and Matt were two lads both travelling independantly who we made real good friends with and once we arrived in the over polluted, over crowded mesmorising yet somehow magical city of Bangkok us four and a lad named Assamat who i met on the bus all decided to share a room togther as we were all there for a couple days and it would save money! We have had better expereinces than checking in to a guest house at 6am on khosan road in Bangkok, but we enjoyed it none the less! After a good sleep we all woke got ready and headed into the city, after some delicious street food equating to about 1 pound me and Tom left the guys to go to the Vietnamese embassy to obtain ours visas. After a surprisingly quick apllication we head back of to meet that lads at a gigantic shopping centre called m.b.k! m.b.k is basically 7 floors full of fake stuff, everything imaginable, t-shirts, sunglasses, watches an array of calvin boxers etc alongside other cheap goods such as furniture, homewear and all the like!
Enjoying a good look around and after few cheaky purchases (mainly fake underwear) and experiencing our first tuk tuk ride in rush hour in Bangkok, which was scarier than any ride at Alton Towers with numerous near fatal collisions it was time to decide how to spend the evening. Assamat had left us to go visit some friends he has in Bangkok so it was up to use four wolves. Our two main choices were going to watch Muay Thai boxing, an acient martial art practised for centurys and takes decades to master watched by all walks of life and apparently produces an amazing atmosphere; or going to watch a thai ping pong show.
Leaving the ping pong show horrified at what we just witnessed we decided the only way to forget the last 45mins was to indulge in some infamous chang! whilst sitting on kohsan road still with some unnerving flashbacks Aadil and Simon were introduced to some new magic tricks by a street magician which they felt the need to show everyone in Bangkok, meanwhile Tom and Matt got introduced to more buckets filled wth Vodka Redbull! The night was long and going to bed at daylight again again really meeses you up, but all was worth it to say we had suckled from the teet Bangkok and survied, although Bangkok definitly had us!
The next day was spent killing time, with Matt of to meet his freinds, Me Tom and Simon all had the pleasure of killing time as me and Tom we set to leave for Cambodia at 1.30am and Simon's flight back to Zurich not till 2am. We adventured back to m.b.k to see what other bargains we could lay our hands on. Shattered from investing in vests, parachute pants, shorts and t-shirts and a lot of local cuisine we still had time to kill, so though we would go to the cinema and watch men in black 3, after watching the most emotional advert ever for a mobile phone, the most surreal experience was having to stand up in the middle of the cinema and listen to the national anthem whilst a video of the king played.
Eventaully the time had come to catch our dreaded 11 hour coach to Cambodia....we have now been here 6 days and have plenty to tell, but thats all for another day!
see you at the botton.....
