Our car was picking us up at 11:30 to take us to Entebbe for our 10:59pm flight. The neighborhood kids came over for one last time. I brought out some pictures of my family and I to show the kids. Of course, they all wanted to keep the pictures. We packed our bags, had one last meal of chapatti, said our goodbyes to the sisters, and spent the hour with the children. We laughed, cried, and hugged. The cameras were constantly flashing. As soon as we saw the car, my stomach tied into a huge knot. I didn't want to go and leave these children behind. We said goodbye again to the sisters and loaded the car. The kids stood on the outside waving and crying. Living, a 10 year old was sobbing. As we drove away, I handed him a picture of my family and I and watched as he put it on his heart. It still gives me goosebumps. The 6 hour car ride was very difficult. It was long and sad.
We arrived at the airport super early and had a lot of time until our flight. Our flight to Brussels and MOntreal were both on time and went smoothly. Unfortunately, Montreal to Toronto was a little delayed and our flight from Toronto to Chicago was changed to earlier without our knowledge. We missed our last flight and had to wait until Monday morning to fly home! It was a total bummer.
I am safely home! I started work today (Monday) as soon as I got home!
Thank you all for your support and prayers throughout my journey. It was an amazing experience that I will never fully be able to describe. The people were the most generous and whole-hearted people you will ever meet. It was an eventful six weeks with plenty of ups and downs. The sisters, SMC students, and children truly became like family throughout our time there. I hope you have enjoyed the blog and I will be putting pictures up! I will have a link to shutterfly so you can see them! God Bless you all!
