TING TINGS, SAD THINGS, AND ZURICH
Continuing in my Disney en Français saga, I'm now watching Fantasia 2000, the cheap knockoff of the original Fantasia. I figure I'll work my way up to the best. But there are whales in the 2000 version so that's a SERIOUS plus!
Anways, enough rambling...School for a lot of the students this week was over. They've done their two weeks and are peacing out to go back to their respective Swiss corners. Leaving me and the rest of us known as "Les etrangers" to fend for ourselves! This is a sad moment. Cos despite my honest, initial opinion of "Fine, I don't need friends anyways" mentality, I actually found some really cool people, "friends" if you will, that I'd love to keep in touch with! Most of the Swiss German people are leaving, but they'll be close enough that I can go visit in the avro after school!
With this in mind, we decided it would be an EXCELLENT idea to go have ourselves a little soiree down by the lake side before the last day of class! Biggest. Best. Mistake. Ever!! Liquor sold in the grocery store, no big deal. Beer sold in 3L tubes of joy, kind of a big deal. McDonalds being closed at 2 am after a night of the latter, HUGE DEAL!! I can now also say that I've been to a strip club in Switzerland (it was only to use the washroom I SWEAR!!) But they must have been the saddest looking hookers I've ever seen, and I've seen FIVE! The bar we went to sold huge, 2 meter tall tubes? Flasks? Flutes? Of beer that needless to say, we pillaged in no time flat between 4 of us. We called it quits late into the night and after 15 minutes of assuring, and double checking that people were alright to walk home, we meandered our way back to our homes. In the morning we greeted each other's gaze with hysterical laughter, the language-less words of "you should have seen yourself last night." There is never any need for words, because someone's usually taken enough pictures to say about 10,000!
That morning I awoke, feeling like ass I might add, but made it to school on time! Today was Aki, Tania, Simon, Raphaela, and Jordis's last day at school, so I figured it was a good reason to go! We said a tearful goodbye, but not before billions of details and contacts were exchanged so we'd keep in touch fo lyfe!
After that, we hung out, had some good times, and then went back to our host families for dinner. I had "jambon cru" and Aki left! No comment...That evening, Simon and I were planning on hanging out with Jordis, going to the bar or something. But halfway through the evening we got a text saying she was in Montreux, the next town over, at the famous famous famous Jazz Festival. I realized how famous it was when I told my mom and she said (verbatim) "Montreux!! OMG!"
We quickly grabbed our coats and ran for the train to join her! A while back, I had planned on going to see the Ting Tings, a band from England who was recently featured in an iPod commercial ("Shut up and let me go"). It was a nice surprise that I got to see them in the end, cos I had kind of written this night off for saying goodbyes, but NO! I got to double my pleasure! Sadly this came at the cost of my (gorgeous, practical, awesome, favourite...) Lululemon. Tear. The part that sucks is that IT'S OUT THERE SOMEWHERE! Nothing simply disappears, right? I'm just frustrated I don't know where the f*** it is. I'm trying to go over the situations in my head, but everything is kinda blurred together, vague enough that I can make a bunch of situations seem like the point where I lost my jacket...grumble grumble. One of the main pillars of Buddhism is "no attachment", placing no emotional energy on "things" as they only lead to disappointment. That, and I tried to remember everything that everyone, mostly Omeed, had told me about "The Secret". I guess I should have paid more attention then!
Ok, Ting Tings, awesome. But we had a pretty good view, and managed to get out before the crowds! Got back on the train to Lausanne to go visit Jordis who went to a club called Mad (30 bucks cover...um...WTF??). I'd make a joke about the name of the club and the cost to get in, but I'll leave that up to you!
We said goodbye to Jordis and then Simon, Susanne and I went looking for a bar open at 2am that would allow people under 20 in! This left us with a club called Darling. Barf. It was more or less one of those, "I don't wanna go home, so I guess I'll stay here" moments. A few things I've learned from European clubbing:
-They love Madonna: 4 Madge songs in 15 minutes!
-You will wake up smelling like a hooker's mouth in the morning: You can smoke in clubs in Europe...gross
-You will have to take out a second mortgage to pay for the drinks you buy: $20 vodka redbulls? Are you s***ting me?
-You'll have a good time regardless, unless you don't...then...well...that sucks!
Today was Zurich, the not-capital, as I've been told! It's like Toronto, the biggest city in the country, but still doesn't have the cajones to be capital of the nation, like Ottawa or Bern! I went to Zurich not expecting to meet up with my cousin's friend Melissa, as she didn't get back to my Facebook messages, but I was pleasantly surprised when she smacked me on the head and dragged me into "Le Veille Ville".We had an awesome time walking, walking, and walking around the city's river, eating things called Strugli, which look like miniature hamburgers, but are actually like different flavoured Pfeffernussen cookies with a cream cheese, meringue thang in the middle. After we had a communal siesta along the river and then headed home! It's an alright town, looks kinda like Stockholm, but without the pleasure of having a lot of Swedes!
Now I'm back in Lausanne, watching Fantasia, drinking something called "Beauty Colada" (???) and am ready for a serious sleep in day tomorrow!
Adieu adieu adieu to you and you and you!
