Trogir has become our second home of late, being conveniently located right next door to Split airport from where I flew back to the UK for my best bud's hen weekend and we collected some visitors. First, Gerard's best man Reian came to keep him company while I was away (and to practice guitar - sporadic renditions of "Big Rock Candy Mountains" continued long after he left). There were only a few photos from their weekend but they all looked fairly wholesome so I assume they behaved themselves... In any case, the boat was in tact (and clean!) when I returned and those lovely boys had even bought me a present so no complaints. Unfortunately the weather was less well-behaved and we had a particularly hair-raising ride back to the boat in the dinghy mid-thunderstorm, torn between the desire to shield ourselves from the hammering rain and fear of turning our umbrellas into lightning rods.
We dropped off Reian and picked up our next guests, Becca and Ben, in Trogir too. They had a bit of a baptism of fire, covering 38 miles in the first 2 days to get down to a town called Omis on the mainland where we anchored in a river that runs through an enormous gorge - impressive views and some strong wind! We caught a bus to Split the next day where we joined a fascinating walking tour (90 mins was perhaps a little excessive to cover the few hundred square metres of the old town) and went to a museum boasting the largest collection of stuffed frogs in the world (apparently it's only in town once every 7 years so we were extremely lucky to catch it). We hurried back to Omis to get a good spot for the Dutch World Cup game, only to discover we'd missed it - but at least they won!
After that the sun came out again and we hopped from one bay to the next, rounding Brac and coming back past Hvar and Solta, spending our days swimming and sunning. Ben found a talent for fishing and caught us some very tasty specimens (firmly identified as mackerel) which Gerard dispatched and gutted - he's becoming a real salty sea dog. We even managed to see some dolphins on their last day (which was fortunate since we'd been pretty cocky all week that we'd see some). They treated us to an amazing dinner on their penultimate night and we dropped them off in - you guessed it - Trogir.
Now we're heading north again and getting ready to pick up our next visitors, including trying to find somewhere to get our laundry done. It's proving more challenging than expected... with no showers or clean clothes, I suspect these might be the last people brave enough to join us!
