With our above sea level nature lust sufficiently sated, it was time to satisfy the diver in us. Having done some minor research we were excited to learn that Borneo boasted one of the best dive sites in the world, the island of Sipadan. Due to the unique geography and marine life the island has been protect for several years, has no inhabitants and limits divers to approximately 100/day. This being the case it meant to dive Sipadan you needed to book at least 3 weeks in advanced to be assured a place, when this was confirmed by the first 2 dive centres we rang our hearts sank. Then as if ever the case with the luck of the Irish, we happened upon Seaventure, An old oil rig dragged of the coast of Mabul a Sipadan neighbouring island and converted to a dive centre. A 4 day stay on Seaventures Rig came at a cost but it guaranteed at least one days diving in Sipadan, a minimum of 14 dives in total and the chance to stay of the only dive rig of its kind in the world! SOLD! What ensued was perhaps 4 of the greatest days a person (persons) can spend on this beautiful planet of ours. Amazing food, excellent company & incredible diving. Buffet feasts 3 times a day, discovery channel documentaries, late night beers and stimulating conversations, sharks & seahorses, turtles & tuna, barracudas & nudi-branches, cuttlefish & sea cucumbers. It is not a lie to say we were dragged away screaming when the time came to leave.
