That evening we booked a driver and car to take us across the vast island of Flores to Ende via the sights and sounds of the stunning island. The next morning we were introduced to our diver "Toto" and parted with our hard earned cash and of we went on the 3 day journey. Our first stop the famous spider web paddy fields. We pulled up in a random house and were led by a local old man up to the top of the hill with no idea what to expect, all was revealed, at the top was the stunning scenery which took our breath away.
We then continued to wind our way up the mountains to Ruteng for a spot of local lunch, after 30 mins we noticed that Toto had disappeared with all of our worldly belongings, we feared the worst but remained calm until after an hour he came back into view at the end of the street. Back in the car we made our way to Bajawa stopping off at toto's mates place to try and buy some local alcohol made out of palm plants. Suitably accommodated we had dinner and headed to bed leaving our newly acquired rice wine in the back of the car. We woke up for a 7:00am breakfast as we knew we had a lot of ground to cover that day. After breakfast we sat in the front of the hotel and noticed that Toto's car was not there, our hotel manger said he had gone home and we should wait for him, well we waited and waited and waited. By 10:00am we were doubting that he would ever make an appearance, a call to the tour company left it in their hands to locate Toto. With no progress we insisted the help of another tour guide who dutifully rang the tour company, it then became apparent that good old Toto had taking our money and ran! b******!!
