The Simple Life
The 1st half of the journey was spent stopping every 10 minutes to look at the sights of the Great Ocean Road. Mainly rocks in the sea but very impressive in real life. The whole journey down the coastal road was filled with spectacular sights. We had a few moments to ourselves where we felt very fortunate to be able to see it all first hand.
Leaving behind the rock formations we found ourselves following the windy coastal road to Torquay. Murph had given us orders to take it easy on this road as it was a little bit hairy. Nothing would have fully prepared us though. You are right on the edge of the cliffs, some areas with no barriers and a*******s deciding to drive on your side of the road too. There was more than a couple of expletives muttered! But safe and sound if not a little over awed we arrived in Torquay, Surfers town.
This is where the brands Ripcurl and Quicksilver originate from. We stayed in Bells Beach Backpackers. Full of surfer dudes we eventually plucked up the courage to ask whether we could watch the OC only to discover it was the only bloody channel that couldn't be picked up by the aerial. We headed to bed early in disgust. Don't think it would be out of place to say a few tears were shed. How were we going to cope without our weekly fix of the Seth?!!!!!!!!!
It would have been rude not to visit Bells Beach to catch all the surfers the next morning. We were not disappointed! It's very cool and surreal to see a couple of dozen guys hanging out on the point on their surfboards. You can see why people say the surfing fraterntiy is like a cult. We are looking for membership.........
Our eyes contented we headed to the surf wear factory outlets to see if there were any bargains to be had. Unfortunately our backpacks and budgets wouldn't allow any spending. I'm sure there's a sigh of relief from the mothers!
About lunchtime we made the final leg of our journey into Melbourne.
