Well Folks
I know exactly what you must all be thinking, It's such a long time since our last communication you are probably wondering, why now???
Well as you can see we are on out holidays in the state of Tasmania (for those of you who are unfamiliar with it,it's the little island off the bottom of mainland Australia!!)
After a comfortable 2 nights in Hobart in a hotel, we picked up our campervan (the beast) and after a quick run through of how everything worked we were off out on the open road with the freedom of stopping wherever we liked. We cruised off through a fewe small picturesque villages with grand Georgian architecture on our way to the big attraction South which was Port Arthur.
Mel found us a great site for our first night in the van right on White Beach with the sea rolling in. We popped up our lid set the table and settled down to a tasty meal cooked on the stove in our van catching the end of the sunshine for the day.
Now any of you who have camped will know that the days start early as you tend to go to bed early,so it was up at 6.30am and into the shower before breakfast on the beach and then off to Port Arthur.
When you arrive at the site it looks nothing like a prison but as you walk around and hear the stories you get a feel foe the place even on a nice sunny day which is what it was when we were visiting. The place is huge and it took us all day to get around with a side trip over to the Isle of the Dead to see where all the convicts and staff had been buried. It really must have been a brutal place to serve a sentence and by the end of the day we had learned so much and really enjoyed our day.
Back at the campsite the sun was setting over the bay and we had a coffee on the beach before retiring to the beast for another gourmet meal.,while watching the wallabies, rabbits and bandicoots moving around in the dusk. We even had a kookaburra creating a racket above the van.
After 2 night in White Beach we headed off up the east Coast through Sorrell and onto Bicheno where we stopped for the night. I had a little cabin fever although Mel was loving the compactness of the Beast so we headed to the local in Bicheno for an hour before dinner.
Our next stop was Launceston where we did a couple of cool things but the story will have to wait as we have run out of internet time in the library!!! will be in touch with part II soon
Lots of Love
M & M
